There is a song entitled “Oh Say, What is Truth?” That title has always stood out to me. What is truth? It is a timeless question, one that has been at the heart of the greatest wars and of the greatest movements of peace throughout history. In today’s society the term truth has become so relative as to totally demolish our understanding of it. As a result the morals of our society have drastically decayed. In fact the notion that there is truth has become a mirage in the distance that we just can’t seem to grasp.
The fact of the matter is there is truth, absolute truth. The best definition of truth that I have ever heard is “…Truth is knowledge of things as they really are, and as they were, and as they are to come;” In modern day English truth doesn’t change. It was that way in the past, it is that way now, and it will stay that way throughout all eternity.
Let’s take an example from the world that we all understand, the law or the truth of gravity. It is an absolute truth; the fact that gravity exists and will always exist is obvious. Now no matter how much you believe that gravity doesn’t exist or that you have the capacity to defy that law, you will always go splat when you jump out of a 10 story building. You cannot break the truth; you can only break yourself against the truth (very literally in the instance of gravity).
But there is a way to get off the ground. When you understand the truth of gravity you can use it to your advantage to soar into the atmosphere. So it is with all truth, when utilized properly you will be taken to greater heights than you even thought possible.
There is truth to all things. There is truth to morals, there is truth to ethics, and there IS truth to religion.
Please from this point forward, in my blog, understand that I am not trying to offend or criticize anyone. I am merely trying to point out truth. You may not at first agree with what I have to say, but if you sincerely pray and ask God, He will show you the truth of all things.
Okay back to truth, those who argue that there is no absolute truth to religion are mistaken. That belief may possibly stem from the underlying thought process that man created religion to worship God and so whatever you believe about God is correct for you. While this belief has prompted many good people to do wonderful things, there is more to the puzzle.
I know that there is a God in heaven who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He has opinions, desires, and he himself is bound by eternal truth. This belief leads to another mindset about religion that is based on eternal truth. That is that God himself instituted religion for man. God created his religion, which is based upon truth and does not change as Paul said, “…with every wind of doctrine…” (Eph. 4:14). With God’s religion the truths never change but the practices, which are based on truth, may change, but only at the divine direction of God. He has always and will always be the head of his church directing all of the affairs even in the day-to-day operations. That is truth.
Throughout the centuries there have been many men who have, whether intentionally or unknowingly, attempted to imitate God’s religion, thus bringing about much confusion. We as man with our limited view cannot operate without direction from God, for he is omnipotent. Now none of this makes anyone, who is trying to do the best they can with what they have, a bad person. On the contrary as I said before there are many wonderful people out there doing wonderful things. I believe that they are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it. Many people are honest seekers of the truth and because of which have many bits and pieces of the truth upon which they have based their lives. And as with all honest seekers of truth they embrace truth when they hear it.
This is why I am not out to take away people’s beliefs but simply add to the truths which they already cherish. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints I am here to proclaim that God has again restored the fullness of the truth to the Earth. I know it and I know that you can know it too, as you honestly ask, seek, and knock.
For me, because the gospel is true I believe there are absolutely no unanswerable questions. On this blog I intend to explain the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ as simply and as logically as I can. Feel free to ask or comment on anything. While I do not know all of the answers, I know that God does. I know that he will confirm the truthfulness of the things that I share to you as you sincerely seek his guidance.
