I once heard a man, as he was investigating which church to join, say, “I'm going to come into this with an empty bucket.” That phrase stumped me for a moment until he explained himself. He said that if he tried immediately to stack everything we said up next to everything he had learned his entire life, it wouldn't make sense. As he learned he said he would “empty his bucket” and take in everything that we said and then see if it made sense and stack it up next to what he already knew.
I hope that you will do the same as you read through this blog. I would ask you to please come and fill up your bucket, then do as the apostle James directs, “...let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” (James 1:5).
